Student Leadership Program

Shoresh Learning offers additional support services through its Student Leadership Program. This program is centered around seven core objectives needed to support our future leaders.

2.) Job Skills - includes the completion of an 8 week job readiness training, conducting personal career research, development of a resume, basic computer literacy, assistance with job search and interview skills. The student must demonstrate knowledge and skills required to seek, obtain and maintain employment. Under this program we encourage continuing education through higher education/trades/and obtaining viable employment.

3.) Leadership - participants will learn and understand different leadership styles. They will be charged with holding a leadership position. They must show evidence of personal motivation and self-discipline on a continuing basis.

4.) Community Service - is accomplished by students participating in the planning, action and completion of community service projects and must complete 40 hours of community service activities. This is designed to give students an understanding of their role as a community member and the need to assist those in need.

5.) Health, Sex Education & Nutrition - student demonstrating an understanding the effect of substance abuse on mental and physical health and well being. Students must demonstrate moral and ethical leadership skills, good citizen values, respect for oneself and others, honesty and loyalty. Upon completion, they will have developed an understanding of drugs/alcohol and its affect on the body, the value of proper nutrition, sexually transmitted diseases and the importance of achieving overall good health.

6.) Mentorship/Life Skills - One of the most vital objectives of the program. Participant will be paired with a mentor. The mentor will work closely with a participant to assist them and guide them through life's challenges. This objective also involves the understanding of basic economics, personal financial management, personal coping strategies (i.e., ability to deal with emotions such as anger, grief), conflict resolution strategies and the ability to set and achieve goals. The mentor will work closely to aid and assist them in achieving their goals.

7.) Identity/Responsibility - geared toward assisting each student in having a basic understanding of themselves. This includes an understanding of life's process, self-accountability, self-worth and self-love.

Participants in the student leadership program will be able to clearly identify their goals in life and develop clear plans to achieve them.
